In 2014, the series was commencement announced by Netflix and Scholastic Media, and was titled The Magic School Omnibus 360°.[10] The new iteration of the franchise features a modernized "Ms. Frizzle" (replacing Valerie with her younger sister Fiona) and a high-tech motorcoach that stresses modern inventions such as robotics, wearables and camera technology. The hope is to captivate children'south imaginations and motivate their interest in the sciences.[11] It was produced by ix Story Media Group.[12] Producer Stuart Rock, who voiced Ralphie in the original serial, stated that The Magic School Double-decker 360° will feature some of the original voice actors in different roles. The show's voice cast is based in Los Angeles, California, United States and Toronto, Ontario, Canada with Susan Blu equally the Los Angeles voice managing director and Alyson Court as the Toronto vox director.[13] In February 2017, Kate McKinnon was cast in the role of Ms. Frizzle (without clarifying it was Fiona, the younger sister of Valerie, now Professor Frizzle, nevertheless voiced by Tomlin). The serial then changed its proper noun to The Magic School Bus Rides Over again.[xiv] The series was released on Netflix on September 29, 2017.[1] The second flavor was released on April 13, 2018.[ii]

Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton sings the theme song.[15] Phoebe Terese, a character from the original series, is replaced by a new educatee named Jyoti, as information technology was revealed that Phoebe transferred back to her old school.[16] [17] The episode endings feature question and answer sessions with Professor Frizzle, echoing the segments virtually viewers calling the producer which accompanied the original series on commercial-free channels.[18] Despite clarifying some artistic license taken in the episode, these scenes are still set in a universe with magical vehicles.[19] Among other changes, the students yet wear the same clothes every 24-hour interval but they do not resemble those from the original series.[20] Three 45–minute specials were released in 2020: the starting time special The Magic School Charabanc Rides Again: Kids in Space was released on August 7,[21] the second named The Magic School Jitney Rides Over again: The Frizz Connection on October xx[22] and a 3rd titled The Magic Schoolhouse Bus Rides Over again: In the Zone on December 26.[23] The artstyle was changed for the specials as the characters accept no outlines and the lighting and shading are more than detailed.

Critical reception [edit]

Why has this skillful-natured bear witness already received an inordinate corporeality of judgement? How can this much vitriol be thrown at a creation before anyone has even seen it?

Decider, [24]

After the series' announcement and the release of its trailer, in that location was initial resistance to the new art style, absenteeism of Lily Tomlin as Ms. Frizzle, and fear it would not live up to the original serial.[25] [26] AOL accused the evidence of giving Ms. Frizzle a nose job.[27] Bustle put this downwards to fans of the testify beingness "protective of its legacy".[28]

Despite this speculation, the serial has been critically acclaimed upon release. Mutual Sense Media deemed the show a worthy successor to its 1990s sister series, praising its gender and ethnic diverseness and its commitment to teaching children about Stalk subjects.[29] Christianity Today argues that the show managed to keep the "genius of the franchise", which is that the children are virtually more intrigued past the complexity and order of the natural world rather than the magic of the titular schoolhouse charabanc.[30] Daily Dot praised the series' premiere for addressing the alter to the show'south structure, putting viewers at ease through the transition, adding that the science was fabricated "approachable".[26] The Houstonian found the episodes' scenarios to be "pretty interesting", commenting on the academical and moral lessons.[31] The AV Social club felt the series lives upwards to its predecessor, and contains the same "goofy humor and ease with making learning fun".[32] Some other AV Order article wrote that the series is "lively, fast-paced, and exceedingly tolerable for adults", and full of enough science to allow them to park their kids in forepart of information technology guilt-free.[33]
